5 Office Cleaning Tips and Tricks

Posted on

A clean working environment impresses your clients and helps with employee productivity. This is why cleaning every space in your office is important.

A healthy employee is a happy employee, and a happy one means more work done!

Office cleaning should always be a part of your routine, and it doesn’t have to be time-consuming. Here are 5 quick ways to keep your office spick and span!

Implement an office housekeeping policy

The office is your second home, so you should keep it clean and tidy. Plus, a clean space improves work morale!

Your office cleanliness policy should include the following rules:

  • Clean desk rule. Only items in use should be present on everyone’s desk.
  • Allocate trash bins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable garbage. Also set a schedule to empty the bins regularly.
  • Keep some basic cleaning supplies at hand, such as
    • Small dustpan and brush
    • Clean cloths
    • Mop and bucket (for floor spills)
  • Keep boxes and other storage materials out of sight, or place them in an appropriate storage area.
  • Clean as you go. Everyone should be required to clean up, especially after using common areas and shared workspaces.

Disinfect office phones and other electronics.

Telephone

An office phone typically contains more than 250,000 germs per square inch. Yikes!

To keep your office phones as germ-free as possible, make it a policy for your office employees to clean them. Dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and thoroughly wipe the buttons, receiver and mouthpiece. If there’s ear wax build up on the earpiece, brush it out with a dry cleaning toothbrush.

Keyboards

Every employee has the habit to eat at their own desks, especially when working on deadlines.

To remove those crumbs and other dirt from keyboards, turn  the keyboard upside down and gently shake it. If you have a can of compressed air available, you can tilt your keyboard to a 75 degree angle and spray to push out smaller crumbs/dirt.

Mouse

One of the computer peripherals we always use at work but rarely gets cleaned, along with the keyboard and phone. You can do a quick wipe-up of your mouse with a microfiber cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol.

Keep cleaning supplies and other disinfectants (alcohol, sanitizers, etc).

It’s a good idea to keep disinfectant supplies on hand, so employees can quickly sanitize before using any office equipment. Some of the disinfectant supplies you should keep are:

  • Hand sanitizers
  • Rubbing alcohols
  • Antiseptic wipes

Disinfect touch points. Doors, windows, phones, handles

Anything commonly touched is a hotbed for germs. These touchpoints include door handles, windows, office equipment, even rubbish bins. To lower the chance of employees getting sick, clean surfaces with soap/detergent and water, then disinfect with any disinfectant of your choice.

Leave the thorough cleaning of your office to a cleaning service.

The best, most efficient way to keep your office clean and germ-free is to hire experts who could do the cleaning and maintenance for you! There are lots of commercial cleaning services that would leave no time for grime for your office. Ahem.
