Quick and Easy Clean Up Tips During The Holidays

Posted on

The holiday season is the busiest time of the year everywhere and leaving an impression is the most crucial. Guests will be coming over and it’s very important to have a clean and tidy house. Here are some quick and easy cleaning tips.

Prioritize the places that your guests will be in

Guest Bathroom

Do the guest bathroom first. The easiest way to ruin a guest’s mood is to let them experience a dirty bathroom. This is the place where they will be the most vulnerable and most sensitive.

Also, they will be just by themselves in a small space so they will easily notice anything. Empty the bin, wipe the faucet heads and the mirror.

You can also leave a freshener or just light scented candles. However, if you’ll be using candles, make sure that they are stable to accidental bumps and they are not near any flammable materials (which a bathroom is full of).

Guest Room

After the bathroom, proceed with their bedroom if they will be staying over.

Keep your design minimal on the guest room. The fewer things it has, the easier it is to clean. Lay down fresh sheets and covers.

You can also hang your pillows outside in the sun to kill some of the bacteria and to puff them up a bit.

Living Room

Make sure that you have coasters or placemats in your living room for guests to place their food and drinks. This will make it easier for you to clean up after.

Make sure that you have multiple bins that are easy to see. Sometimes, the reason why guests leave their trash is that there aren’t any bins nearby. You can also use this tip on other parts of the house.

Cook them up a good meal

This is a dual-purpose strategy. Of course, no gathering would be complete without food. But try to prepare herby dishes such as roast lamb or just a good old pie. This will make your place more inviting for guests and you won’t need any fresheners to make your home smelling good.

Put your junk in the boot

If you are in a pinch and the guests are already on their way, gather your clutter in a big container or a laundry basket and place it in the boot of your car or truck.

But remember, this is just for an emergency. Make sure you remember to take the junk out and dispose of it. You don’t want to haul your trash when going places.

Set up house rules

You don’t have to do all the cleaning by yourself. Let your guests clean up after themselves by reminding them. Be creative. You can use a chalkboard, a whiteboard or you can even make a short looping video you can display on your TV or smart display.

This will make sure that they will follow your reminder and be amused by how you presented your reminder.

Use eco-friendly disposable tableware

Doing the washing up, especially if you have no dishwasher, can be a challenging, time-consuming task. However, if you use eco-friendly, disposable tableware, guests can just throw them out. (See the tip about having multiple, easy to see bins)

Always clean up immediately after

The sooner you do your cleaning, the easier it is. Don’t let spills or clutter creep up and accumulate. Wipe down and pick up.
