Business Operations for the New Normal

Posted on

The pandemic changed the world forever and everything that we used to do is going to be very different moving forward. But we are very adaptive and we always come up with ways to strive.

Although many businesses all over the world have been severely affected, a large portion of them came up with ways to persist and maintain their business operations and that includes us and our clients.

Here are some of the things that we learned that may help you restart or maintain your business in this new normal, while maintaining health and safety.

Cooperation and Compliance

These times are very challenging for all of us and it’s going to be even more difficult if we don’t do this together. We simply can’t survive this if we do things our own way. And the best way for us to work together is to follow the guidelines of our authorities.

Our government has multiple programs that help businesses as well as online resources to help us operate safely.

Here are some of them:

NSW’s COVID Safe Business Program:

Safe Work Australia’s COVID-19 Resource Kit:

Coronavirus information and support for business

Another way for us to help each other is to reach out to your community. Talk to fellow business owners and share experiences on how to operate in these trying times. And ask for customer feedback. They may have something in mind that they need you to do in order to feel safe.

Transparency in Information

Because of the uncertainty of our situation, people are very anxious. What we all need in these times is information. Accurate, upfront, and fast information. And that goes both ways.

Customers and businesses have the responsibility to be as honest as they can about necessary information as hiding them can jeopardize the safety of our community. But be vigilant and only provide necessary information as they can be abused.

And as a business, one simple way to be transparent is to post your cleaning schedule so that your customers will know how regularly you clean and they will feel more comfortable in making business with you.

Understanding the Technology

Fortunately, we already had the internet when the pandemic happened. It’s the best way for us to connect with people, whenever and wherever. There are multiple ways to migrate business online and there are talented people and agencies where you can outsource tasks to help you out.

But for us, personally, it’s better to understand how technology works first before letting other people handle it. Although we’re not suggesting focusing solely on educating yourself with technology. We know that people in business don’t have the luxury of time to do that.

We are just suggesting to take time and learn the basics in your free time. This is how you get to know what you want done. You can try and learn the technologies that you are using and sharing that information across your teams.

The internet is a very complex and very flexible tool. It can be personalized in a way that’s perfectly helpful to your business.

Agility and Future-Proofing

These principles might be deep business terms but it is very simple in principle. Agility is the ability of businesses to adapt very quickly to any situation and future-proofing is simply being prepared for the future.

Even though we are already slowly moving forward in the new normal, always expect and be ready for any other situation that can occur.

One way to do this is to have guidelines for situations like this and to have all your processes documented. And the documents don’t even need to be fancy or too formal. It can be just principles in simple step guides to perform business tasks.

This can ensure that whatever happens, any person can read the guides and can perform any operational task in your business.
